Modern Lake Living on Lake Anna

Over the years homes on Lake Anna have changed dramatically. When the lake was formed in the early ‘70s most dwellings built on the lake were simple weekend cottages approximately 1500-2000 square feet.
I have worked on many of these structures over the years. Many of which I call “whole house transformations.” I have taken friends to some of these before and after jobs to which many would reply “I’ve not been here before,” to which I would usually reply –“Oh yes you have!”.
Most of these clients had owned the property for years and were not interested in moving or building new. As they reach retirement age they are looking to expand as they love their property’s view, area, neighbors, etc.
This is where I come in. I listen to their dreams and desires. Most want new larger kitchens, baths and owner suites. Some can visualize, some cannot.
To pull these additions off, I usually recommend new siding and roofing to blend the old with the new. I find this type of job very rewarding as I document the progress from start to finish.
New homes today are generally much larger now, ranging from 5,000 to over 10,000 square feet.
Some of the amenities requested include: Interior-large vaulted ceilings, multiple fireplaces, large custom tiled showers, spas, saunas, game rooms, accent lighting, smart home design, whole home generators, etc.
Exteriors – stone veneers, prefinished cement sidings, metal roofs, high performance windows, doors and glass; fire pits, outside dryspace patios that include kitchens, bars and sitting areas; composite decking and railings. All maintenance free – after all when you come to the lake you want to enjoy and play, not work on the house!
Lake living is continuing to evolve and I still believe. “If you’re lucky enough to live on the lake, you’re lucky enough!”
