July 5, 2008

The Eight Annual Lake Anna Boat Parade. Decorate your boat in red, white, and blue patriotic fashion!  We'll meet on the water at Conway Point (between Kelly's Landing and Morgan I Subdivisions) at 11:00. The parade will begin no later than 11:15.  We'll take the usual route down the lake to the end of the parade route at the 208 Bridge, where everyone can jump in and cool off. Everyone is invited to join - please pass on this information to everyone you see!! Because of the "wake action" of the v-hull boats, we need all of the pontoon boats in the front of the parade line. All other boats follow. Let's decorate those boats! Might be tacky, that's true, but on this day in July, it's all about the RED, WHITE, and BLUE!

Boat Smart from the Start! Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 87 (Lake Anna) is offering the "About Boating Safely" course that will teach you how to be responsible and safe on the water. You will learn skills to help you prevent boating accidents. There will be a class on Saturday, March 15 from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM. The cost of this eight hour class is $20 per person. In addition to the class room instruction, you will receive class materials, including a CD of the course. Please bring a bag lunch. The class will be at Kirk O'Cliff Church on Monrovia Road (Rt 612). You will learn all of the Virginia Boating and PWC requirements. After attending the class and taking the final exam, you will receive a USCG Auxiliary Safe Boating Certificate. This certificate could reduce your boat insurance. Also, the certificate will allow children between 14 and 15 to operate a PWC. Reservations are required by March 13. For reservations, please call Jean McCormick at 540-894-0365 or email her at jeanmccor@aol.com . Please visit our website at http://a0540807.uscgaux.info
